Draw & Paint - Free Videos!
Welcome to my new video series ‘Draw & Paint’. What began as a small sketch video series now is a tutorial series in High Definition (HD)! It is made for all fans of my work, comic fans and aspiring artists out there. The best part: It is complete free of charge and you can embed the videos in your blog, website and so on. You also can download the original size videos at the vimeo site. Because I can upload only 500MB each week you will have to wait for the second part of the ‘Hellgirl’ paint video until next week (UPDATE: The second part is online now!). Here are the links to the sketch video and the paint videos:

‘Draw & Paint’ – Hellgirl – Sketch Video
‘Draw & Paint’ – Hellgirl – Paint Video – Part 1 of 2
‘Draw & Paint’ – Hellgirl – Paint Video – Part 2 of 2 – NEW!

Please spread the word! You can use this image. Have fun and drop me a line if you like the new series! (Hellboy Copyright by Mike Mignola!)

Edit: You now can find the embedded videos on this blog by clicking on ‘Videos’ in the top menu. To watch the High Definition (HD) videos you have to go to the vimeo site because the embedded videos are NOT in HD!

Chris Sketch Videos on Vimeo!

Sketch Videos
As I have said before in my last post: I thought it’s time to use some of the new internet technology to show how I work… and I have to say: YouTube isn’t made for sketch videos because of the bad compression and the time lags. I’ve searched for another video portal and I have found ‘vimeo’ which is great for tutorial videos. Vimeo also allows HD movie uploads. So here it is again: My first video of the new sketch video series. The first part of the video series is showing the sketching of Prof. Charles Xavier and Rogue from the X-Men.
If you want to comment the new series you can do this on ‘vimeo’ or you can send me feedback directly via the ‘Contact’ form above. Let me know what (or which character) you want to see in the next part of the series.

Sketch Videos
I thought it’s time to use some of the new internet technology to show how I work. So I’ve created the first video for my new sketch video series on YouTube. The first part of the video series is showing the sketching of Prof. Charles Xavier and Rogue from the X-Men.
If you want to comment the new series you can do this on YouTube or you can send me feedback directly via the ‘Contact’ form above. Let me know what (or which character) you want to see in the next part of the series.
UPDATE: Please don’t view the YouTube video and use the vimeo link above instead! YouTube is compressing the video so it is unwatchable. Vimeo is working great and the better choice for sketch videos!

Robert Kirkman about the Comic Industry

Entertainment No Comments »

Robert Kirkman Interview
Normally I don’t post news about other creators. But this time I do because Robert Kirkman (writer of Invincible, The Walking Dead, …) has posted an important video online where he is talking about the comic industry. He is making some good points which I think are very important for comic creators and readers alike. For me the message is important because I already work on my creator owned comic ‘Maya’ in my spare time. I’m writing the first 3-issue mini-series and my plan is to draw it after my work for the Ray Harryhausen mini-series I’m drawing right now. Regarding the video from Robert, the only point I don’t agree with him is where he says creators should leave the big name publishers like Marvel and DC to work on their own material 100%. I think they should do their own projects beside the work for the big two.

Tales from the Crypt #7 - Info
My new comic story ‘Moonlight Sonata’ will be out this week in ‘Tales from the Crypt’ issue #7 from Papercutz. The story is written by famous writers John and Joe R. Lansdale (Bubba Ho-Tep, Masters of Horror, Bubba Nosferatu and the Curse of the She-Vampires, Conan, Pigeons from Hell, Fantastic Four, Supergirl, Batman …) and shows the tale of mugger Roscoe Little who believes he’s hit the jackpot, when his victim’s keys open up the front door to a millionaire’s townhouse… but things change when Roscoe discovers something in the basement.

Beside a very cool game related project I can’t talk about yet I’m working with ‘Sven Strangmeyer’ (Wave Walkers), one of the best comic colorists I know, on the Bluewater miniseries “Ray Harryhausen Presents: It Came From Beneath The Sea… Again!”. Here are two new pages with pencils done by me and colors from Sven:

Jim Salicrup Interview
I just discovered an interview with Jim Salicrup over at ‘The Pulse’ where he is talking about the new ‘Tales from the Crypt’ comic books. He showed an email from a fan. It really makes my day knowing the readers like my art for the books and better… compare it to the original EC art! Here is an excerpt from the fan mail comment about my art: “a real joy to the senses and – like EC – worth interrupting the story to just absorb and relish!“. MAYA - Promo ArtClick on the little image (Maya’s head) to the left to see my final promo artwork for my creator owned comicseries I will do right after the Ray Harryhausen books are finished.
My plan is to do the whole miniseries in B&W. Now I wonder if you would buy a B&W comic in this kind of style or if it has to be in color?
Please let me know and drop me line by clicking on my orange avatar image on the right side or write a comment to this post. Thank you!

New ‘Tales from the Crypt’!

Chris News, Entertainment, Tales from the Crypt No Comments »

Tales from the Crypt #7Sorry for the late update. The reason for not posting is I have finished another story for ‘Tales from the Crypt’ #7 beside my work on the ‘Ray Harryhausen Presents’ books. You can read a short synopsis of the story here:

“In the second scare-tale, mugger Roscoe Little believes he’s hit the jackpot, when his victim’s keys open up the front door to a millionaire’s townhouse — but things change when he discovers the werewolves in the basement in “Moonlight Sonata.””
